Biography
Welcome to my website Chababeek.
Since I consider everything I create as a window into my creativity; Chababeek, which is Arabic for Windows, is the name I chose for my website.
My name is Nabil Abed and I am a Lebanese-American artist who has spent the last fifty years of my life in creativity.
My journey began at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. In 1980 I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts. Upon graduation I returned to the Middle East, where I would spend the next twenty years creating art and teaching English at the local school.
At first I concentrated on Painting, experimenting with different media on a variety of supports and achieving different effects over the years.
I found that mixing water-based paints with oil-based paints on smooth, non-absorbent surfaces, like glass, Formica, achieved surprising and pleasing results.
After extensive work with paint on glass, it was a natural continuation for my creative expression to begin working with leaded glass. In 1993 I opened my stained glass studio in Lebanon.
In 1999, I went back to the United States where I settled in Los Angelos and where I continued to explore different creative venues (Photomontage, Ode to Corrugated Cardboard Series and Pastels on Paper).
In 2010, I returned to The Lebanon where I am settled in a quaint village overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and where I continue to produce artwork in Stained Glass and anything that might come my way.
My stained glass pieces & various artwork continue to be installed and exhibited regularly, with many pieces held in private collections across the Lebanon, Australia, Nigeria and the United States.
